On August 15th, 1944 the 45th Infantry Division, also known as the "Thunderbirds", was assigned to VI Corps of the U.S. Seventh Army, with the assignment of participating in the invasion of southern coast of France in éOperation Dragoon" and would land at "Deklta-Beach" near Sainte Maxime, France. The Liberation of Western Europe film begins here and continues through to mid-October 1944 when the 45th Division is visited by General Marshall. The contents of this video show the action as was recorded by the 163rd Signal Photo Compagny during these historic operations. Combat Reels has researched and ciompiled all of this raw combat film footage then reformatted it into the DVD format for your viewing pleasure. The footage in this video is intended to be strictly that of the 45th Infantry Division and only shows other unit footage when two or more units are interwined. The first clips show men of the 45th Divisionloading equipment and ammunition for the invasion in Bangoly, Italy. Next, troops are launched from their transport ships and assault the beaches from their LCVPs. Soldiers continue to push inland to reach Rians. They cross the Durance River and then tacke the towns of Pertuis, Manosque and Apt, France. Next, the 45th moves through Bourg-en-Bresse and into Epinal where they cross the Moselle River while engineers work on a Bailey bridge. Watch as 2nd Lt. Barfoot receives the Congressional Medal of Honor from General Patch. The series closes out with General Eagles and the 45th HQ being visited by Generals Marshall, Devers, Patch and Truscott.
